I agree with many of the written points of this OpEd. The sheer fact that the mayor, who had fairly won over Becker (although by a narrow margin) in the mayoral race, would take time out to defend an insulting gesture that was unwarranted? Seems to me that Nelson fears Becker making a comeback for another mayoral run, if he can gain back a seat on council to further his resume.

Just wanted to point out, as a new incoming resident, I have been keeping up with the local politics here and there to educate myself. My own curiosities lead me to wonder how local government leadership sees its current growth and what's to come on the horizon. As most of the surrounding towns (Apopka included) have grown in terms of both population and revenue, I wonder how (or if) Apopka will emulate the sort of gentrified growth it has seen or opt out for more of that classic conservative "Old Florida" feel for the sake of its own identity.
