Starting your small business in Orange County

Posted

You have talked about, thought about it, and maybe even dreamt of starting your own small business. As your county commissioner for District 2, I want you to know, now is the time to start building your business plan because BizLink Orange is here to make it easier. It is an online one-stop shop of resources to aid small businesses during start-up or along the way.

Starting is often the hardest part. BizLink Orange can assist with researching the idea, creating the business plan, and identifying ways to finance your dream. Orange County Government funds BizLink Orange which is managed by the National Entrepreneur Center.

A second stage business is one that’s successfully navigated the beginning phase and now wants to grow. According to BizLink Orange, in order to increase profits through growth, a key element is making sure the right people are hired. They say employees are a company’s most valuable asset, but also, that you must be thoughtful in how you attract and retain the right employees. Turnover costs any small business owner valuable time and money.

A strong part of BizLink Orange is their Resource Navigator. Check it out here: https://bizlinkorange.com/resources/  For example, if finding the right talent to staff your business is what you need, you enter that into the Area of Assistance you’re researching, and you’ll find a number of helpful resources. This site also provides one-on-one coaching and a host of other topics to address your business’ specific need.

Let’s say you’re developing a business to serve mothers between the ages of 25 and 40. You may have a great idea to address the needs of that demographic, but, do you have a personal action plan to make the idea into a workable, profit-bearing business? BizLink Orange will create your Personal Action Plan, in most cases in less than 48 hours!

I’m excited that our Board of County Commissioners voted to provide funding for BizLink Orange and I hope you are too. Reach the entire website at:
