One dead, two injured as gun violence erupts at Wekiva-Jones football game

Tragedy struck Saturday night in Orlando when gun violence broke out in a parking lot next to the Jones High School football field during a playoff game between Jones and Wekiva High Schools. One person died in the shooting, while two others were injured.

With just minutes left in the game, shots were heard from the stands by spectators and players on the field. Both groups fled to safety, and the game ended with less than two minutes remaining. Approximately 1,000 spectators attended the game.

According to the Orlando Police Department, officers went into the parking lot and found two people shot. One person died, while another was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting happened at approximately 8:30 pm. Four juveniles were taken into custody, and police are still trying to identify the shooters. The two victims were adults. According to the OPD, the shooting happened after two groups of people started arguing.

Then, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the OPD was notified of a third shooting victim. That person reportedly arrived at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation. The OPD did not release the names of the victims or the persons arrested.
