Never Forget: Armando Borjas Jr. Scholarship Foundation announces events to honor the sacrifices made on 9/11

First Annual “Together as One Festival” / Second Annual 9/11 Memorial 5k at Apopka Amphitheater

As we look back over the last 21 years since the attacks of September 11th devastated our nation and changed the course of history forever, we are encouraged to remember the sacrifices made and not forget the memory of those who lost their lives that day and continue to lose their battle with 9-11 related illnesses.

In an effort to honor the incredible strength, resilience, and courage of the American people both during and the days after this attack, the Armando Borjas Jr Scholarship, along with the City of Apopka and the Apopka Fire and Police Departments, will host a September 11th Memorial 5k and the “Together as One Festival” at the Apopka Amphitheater.

Armando spent 14 years fighting fires and saving lives with the Apopka Fire Department and 7 years active duty with the United States Marine Corp. In 2011 Armando was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer, which he battled for 2 years until his death at age 39.

In an effort to keep Armando's memory alive and carry on his legacy of public service, the Armando Borjas Jr Scholarship was established in 2015.

Through the years this foundation has help raised awareness for Fire Department related cancer, PTSD, and mental health programs, assisted many local organizations with further helping those in need within the Apopka community and creating a scholarship that helps send local youth to Fire and EMT school.
