Wekiva High travels to University High tonight

After an unexpected home game last week, the Wekiva High School Mustang Football team goes back on the road tonight to face The University High School Cougars in a non-conference game at 7PM.Wekiva

The Mustangs (1-1) are hoping to build off of last week's win against Boone High School. The Mustangs beat the Braves 28-21 after losing to Dr. Phillips 28-7 in the season opener.

That game was scheduled to be played at Boone High School, but field's conditions following Hurricane Hermine caused it to be moved to Wekiva High. But a lightning storm in Apopka delayed the start, however the Mustangs kept their composure and secured their first win of the season. Wekiva jumped out to a 21-7 halftime lead and held on to defeat the Braves 28-21.

The Mustangs were led by workhorse running back Jaylon Fair with 28 carries, 169 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wekiva totaled 252 total yards on the night, including 193 yards on the ground.

The Cougars (0-2) are looking to get their first win after losses to East River (20-6) and Evans (34-12) to open the season.

The Mustangs return home next Friday night, September 16th to face Timber Creek High School. Game time is 7PM.
