Breaking News this Morning: Apopka police respond to car burglary and related two-vehicle collision that kills child

Officers from the Apopka Police Department responded to an auto burglary this morning that escalated into a two-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 7-year-old child.

According to the news releases, at approximately 8:09 am the APD received a call regarding a vehicle burglary in progress in the area of Martin Place Boulevard.

At 8:11 am while officers were responding to the vehicle burglary, Apopka dispatch received a second call regarding a vehicle crash at the intersection of North Maine Avenue and Summit Street involving two vehicles.

According to the APD, the first vehicle was leaving the scene of the auto burglary when it crashed into a second vehicle, occupied by an adult and two children.

As a result of the crash, a 7-year-old passenger in the vehicle was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle, the mother, is in the hospital in stable condition. A second juvenile passenger that was in the vehicle has been treated and released from the hospital.
