Apopka Remembers: Vigil for Austin Duran one year after his tragic accident

Posted
On June 30th, 2022,  tragedy struck Apopka.

Austin Duran, a 25-year-old Apopka firefighter, was critically injured at Fire Station #1 while attempting to move a sand trailer. He died July 15th from the injuries he sustained that day.

Now, a year later, Apopka remembers.

Michael Duran, the father of Austin, invited the community to celebrate, mourn, remember, and honor Austin's memory and his service to Apopka at a vigil tonight.

"Please join our family, the Apopka Fire Department, city leaders, and citizens of the community to support and remember Apopka’s fallen firefighter, Austin Duran. This date marks 365 days since firefighter Austin Duran was tragically injured on the job. It was the day that began his fight for his life but sadly lost just 15 days later. Come support our fallen hero and all of our remaining heroes that put their lives on the line every day."

The Apopka Professional Firefighters Association also released a statement:

"Tonight at 7:30 pm, the Apopka community will gather to remember and honor the life of our brother Firefighter Austin Duran. This memorial will be at the accident site directly across the street from Fire Station One.
Please use this map to assist in finding parking for this event.
Yellow highlighted areas are available for parking, while red represents no parking.
Thank you in advance for your attendance."
