On September 11, 2001, one of the most tragic and pivotal events in modern history occurred in the United States. 2,996 people died, and over 6,000 others were injured in what was the worst attack on US soil since Pearl Harbor and the deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States.
9/11 marked a series of coordinated terrorist attacks carried out by the extremist group al-Qaeda against the United States. Two commercial airliners slammed into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center. Police officers, firefighters, and first responders ran into the fire, smoke, and rubble that the Twin Towers had become in an attempt to save those left trapped and injured in the buildings.
September 11th, 2001, remains a day of remembrance, honoring the lives lost and the resilience of the American people, and on September 11th, 2023, Apopka pays tribute to the memory of them all with a ceremony at the steps of City Hall.
22nd Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony
The Apopka Fire Department and Apopka Police Department invite you to attend this year's 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. We will honor and remember those who perished in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Service will start at 8:30 AM on the front steps of Apopka's City Hall. The flag will be lowered to half-staff.
