Apopka Police Department Burglary Report: April 16th-22nd

Posted

The Apopka Burglary Report for April 16th-22nd shows 16 burglaries reported in Apopka.

Here are a few tips  to protect against home burglaries:

  • Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
  • Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
  • Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
  • Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
  • Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
  • Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
  • Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
  • Don't share your vacation plans on social media.

Chief Michael McKinley of the Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:

  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle
  • Lock your car doors

The police were wanting help identifying the man responsible for a rash of car break-ins in Apopka. They showed his photo on TV during a discussion with a lady about crime, from one of the police agencies. I could see he was white, not real young, definitely not anywhere near college age, had dark hair, and a very distinctive hairline, that comes way down in the center of his forehead in the middle, and on each side, his hairline recedes way back. The lady referred to it as a "widow's peak". So what is the status? Has he been identified, or arrested? It is being kept quiet. Have they identified the man arrested in breaking into the Welch Road fire station with a knife in Apopka? Who was he? Was he the same man with the widow's peak hairline, responsible for the rash of car burglaries? Why is the police not keeping us informed, and updated on these criminals? It is important to us to know about these dangerous people all around our area!
