Apopka Police Department accredited by state telecommunications commission

Posted

The Apopka Police Department would like to recognize our Communications Division and all our Communication Technicians for their recent accreditation from the Florida Telecommunications Accreditation Commission (FLA-TAC).

On Tuesday, June 27th, the Florida Telecommunications Accreditation Commission reviewed the recommendation from the evaluation team to recommend the Communications Center become an accredited center. FLA-TAC is an independent accreditation program for the telecommunications profession and is a branch of the Commission for Florida Accreditation (CFA).

The telecommunications accreditation incorporates Florida law and standard professional business practices surrounding the communications function. Accreditation ensures that state and nationally recognized standards are used as guidelines for agency policy development. As statutes and standards change, policies and practices are routinely reviewed and revised in order to remain current.

On May 23rd-24th, a commission-appointed evaluation team visited the Apopka Communications Center to inspect all aspects of the communications division, review proof files, interview staff, and observe daily operations. As part of the accreditation process, the center had to comply with approximately 80 professional standards in a comparative compliance review. The team found all applicable standards to be in compliance, with no standards elected for exemption and no corrective actions.

When Apopka Police Chief Michael McKinley was hired, one of his goals for the agency was to become and remain accredited. Currently, there are only 25 centers across the state who are accredited under FLA-TAC. This accomplishment makes the Apopka Communications Center stand out among others across the state.

Donna Saladin is the manager of the center, and Lieutenant Carol McMaster serves as the Accreditation Manager for the organization. This recognition is valid for a three-year period and symbolizes professional excellence within the communications community.
