The University of Kentucky Wildcats, a school that typically waits for basketball season to make noise in the Southeastern Conference, is beginning to get noticed in football after posting two straight winning seasons (7-6). Now the Wildcats are looking to Wekiva High School to keep that winning streak alive.
Kentucky has offered scholarships to two Wekiva players - Norell Pollard, a senior defensive end and Rian Davis a senior outside linebacker for the Mustangs.
"Extremely blessed to receive an offer from the University Of Kentucky," Pollard said on his Twitter account.
Pollard is rated a .8638 by the 247Sports Composite and is considered the nation's No. 40 strong-side defensive end. Miami, Mississippi State, Florida, Georgia Tech and Boston College have also offered. The Gators are viewed as the favorite.
Davis is rated a .9400 by 247Sports. He is considered the nation's No. 8 outside linebacker and the No. 80 prospect overall. Davis played for Wekiva his freshman year, before moving to Houston, Texas, where he played the past two seasons at Clear Lake High School.
Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, and Miami are among the many programs to extend a scholarship offer to Davis.
Wekiva finished the 2017 season with a 13-2 record, including a trip to the 8-A State Regional Finals during its historic run in the postseason.
