UF/IFAS announces January classes for Apopka and Orange County

UF/IFAS Extension continues its classes and programs for Apopka and Orange County residents in January:

First Time Homebuyer Workshop - ENGLISH 1/13 & 1/20 (Online)

Learn the steps to home ownership and how to obtain an affordable mortgage in this 2-part online class offered via Zoom by a team of UF/IFAS Extension Agents, including Orange County Extension Agent Jenny Rodriguez. This homebuyer workshop meets the education requirements for down payment assistance programs.

Diabetes Prevention Program (Online)

Take charge of your life and register for this research-based lifestyle change program for preventing diabetes. Online group sessions are led by a Certified Diabetes Educator and a Certified Personal Trainer. Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly meetings. Must be 18 years or older, diagnosed pre-diabetic, Hemoglobin A1C between 5.7-6.4, family history of diabetes, history of gestational diabetes, and overweight (BMI greater than/equal to 25).

gARTening Series: Designing a Closed Terrarium   

A terrarium is a transparent glass or plastic container with soil and plants making it a miniature landscape. Join Orange County Extension Agent Clarissa Chairez and Master Gardener Volunteers to learn what this enclosed ecosystem entails and how to design/care for this miniature landscape. In this class, you will make your own “unique” terrarium to take home and learn about the care and maintenance. You must bring your own sterilized clear glass container (½ a gallon or smaller) with a lid, and we will provide the rest!

Let’s Walk Florida! (Online)

Let's Walk Florida! is a 10-week, virtual educational program designed to help Floridians achieve and maintain health through physical activity. UF/IFAS Extension health experts provide participants with healthy lifestyle strategies and exercises for all fitness levels. Open to individuals, families, and organized teams, you’ll compete with others from your county and across the state to earn awards and prizes!
