Sewer and Water Line Insurance - Should You Buy it?

Posted

The City of Apopka recently signed a Marketing Agreement with Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA). The City gets $0.50 per month for every home warranty contract purchased from SLWA.

Apopka homeowners can buy as many as three warranties from SLWA:

  • External Water Line Coverage: $5.75 per month
  • External Sewer Line Coverage: $7.75 per month
  • In-Home Plumbing Coverage: $6.99 per month

The Apopka Voice has learned that there are at least two other companies offering sewer and water line coverage; HomeServe USA and American Water Resources.

Also, according to local insurance agent Dexter Chase of We Insure Apopka, "There are a number of insurance carriers that will add Sewer and Water Line Coverage to a homeowners policy."

Chase provided The Apopka Voice with information from one insurance company that is offering coverage that includes water and sewer lines for only $30 per year (as compared to $162 per year for Sewer and Water Line Coverage from SLWA).

"With any insurance decision the consumer needs to compare the terms, conditions, deductibles, limits and exclusions," according to Chase.

That seems like good advice since the $30 premium carries a $500 deductible. There are no deductibles for the more expensive SLWA warranties.

The Apopka Voice is working on a comprehensive analysis of the options Apopkans may want to consider before making a decision. We plan to publish our analysis early next week.
