Posted

Bring the family out for the 2016 Public Safety Day hosted by Apopka’s police and fire departments on Saturday, April 2.

The fun-filled event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northwest Recreation Complex, 3710 Jason Dwelley Parkway, will feature emergency vehicles and equipment, interactive exhibits andunnamed-51 live demonstrations of Apopka’s public safety services.

Admission is free, and food concessions will be available. Entrance to the event is on Appy Lane at the north side of the Recreation Complex.

Get up close with fire trucks, police cars, crime-scene van, rescue vehicle, mobile command unit and fire training tower. See the fire department’s massive tower truck with its 95-foot ladder, or the new heavy rescue vehicle. Helicopters will be on display from Orlando Regional Medical Center and Florida Hospital.

The police emergency response team will have a demonstration at 11a.m. The police canine officers will be at 11:30 a.m. The fire department will present a mock vehicle extrication at 12:15 p.m. (vehicle courtesy of BJs Towing.).

The police SWAT officers are at 1 p.m., and the fire department will have water hose fun for the kids at 1:30 p.m. (make sure to bring towels and change of clothes.) A fire tower demonstration also will be presented.

Kids can compete for prizes with Big Wheel races. Face painting is provided by McDonald’s of Main Street and Rock Springs Road in Apopka.

Try on fire gear and a SWAT suit. Practice with a fire hose. Get finger-printed. See Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog. Meet Apopka’s police officers and firefighters.
