Orange County Commissioner Christine Moore became the first candidate in the District 2 election to submit 1,600 signed petitions into the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office and run for reelection via the petition method.

Moore thanked her staff and supporters for their efforts in gaining the signatures.

“While an arduous task for any campaign team, I’m grateful my supporters generously assisted in collecting the required number of signatures in just seven weeks’ time," Moore said. "I’m equally appreciative of those citizens who completed the petition, setting the stage for a successful November re-election campaign.”

Moore, who served 10 years on the Orange County School Board, was elected to the County Commission in 2018 when she defeated Patricia Rumph with 55% of the vote.

District 2 covers northwest Orange County, including Apopka, Ocoee, Zellwood, and a parts of Pine Hills.

As a commissioner, Moore prioritized preserving natural lands, investing in affordable housing, awarding improvement grants for non-HOA communities, upgrading county parks, and most importantly, maintaining county roadways, sidewalks, drainage, and street lighting infrastructure.

Moore also called for greater community engagement through her Neighborhood Leader Program and monthly corridor workdays.  She inaugurated the District 2 Corridor of the Year Program which develops neighborhood leader partnerships and incentivizes areawide improvements.

"Orange County is only as strong as the social fabric of our neighborhoods," Moore said.

According to Moore, one of her biggest accomplishments was securing over $50 million dollars to convert septic systems located closest to Wekiwa Springs to gravity sewer. Moore advocated for residents to the Florida Legislature, and successfully securing $1 million dollars for constructing entranceway improvements at Wekiwa Springs State Park.

She also supported Mayor Demings’ Housing for All initiative which has resulted in numerous new affordable housing projects being built in the district. She also created a Neighborhood Leader Program and Corridor of the Year Contest to strengthen existing communities.

Moore's re-election campaign started in November at the Highland Manor in Apopka.
