It's Election Day Apopka!

Good morning Apopka. Welcome to Election Day 2022!

It's been marked on our calendars and counted down, and now it's here.

The Apopka Voice will be tracking three races today - the Apopka Mayoral Election, the Seat #2 City Commission matchup, and the Seat #4 City Commission contest.

Apopka Mayor

Commissioner Kyle Becker and Mayor Bryan Nelson have been on a collision course for weeks. Today, we find out which candidate's message resonated with the voters. Will Nelson or Becker lead Apopka for the next four years?

Seat #2

First-time candidate Wes Dumey takes on incumbent Commissioner Diane Velazquez. Can Dumey pull the upset? Or will the incumbent's name recognition win the day?

Seat #4

Nick Nesta is running for the city commission for the second time, while Eric Mock is making his first attempt. Which candidate has done enough to prevail?

One thing is for certain, the Apopka City Council is going to look different when this day concludes.

This is the fourth General Election Day event The Apopka Voice will cover, and the 14th election event (runoffs, primaries, special elections, and November elections) overall. As always, expect no less than comprehensive reporting beginning at sunrise and ending when the last ballot is counted, and then post-election coverage tomorrow.

Stay with The Apopka Voice all day for wall-to-wall coverage of these elections. We will have an entire staff of reporters in the field covering events as they break. During the day, look for features about the six candidates, on-site coverage from the polling places, turnout updates... plus election results as soon as they are known beginning at 7 PM.
