Eric Mock, candidate for Apopka City Commission, responds to Apopka Professional Firefighters Association

Posted

Editor's Note: On Wednesday, The Apopka Voice broke a story about the Apopka Professional Firefighters Association's (APFA) endorsement of Commissioner Diane Velazquez in her re-election campaign for Seat #2, and Nick Nesta in his campaign for Seat #4 on the Apopka City Commission. The statement from the APFA also said that Eric Mock, a candidate for Seat #4, did not respond to the questionnaire.

On Thursday, Mock contacted The Apopka Voice and said he did not receive a questionnaire from the APFA.

The following op/ed from Mock is his response to the APFA:

On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, The Apopka Voice ran an article sharing endorsements for two candidates running for Apopka commission seats in the upcoming March 8th election.

Of interest to me, was the Apopka Firefighters Association endorsement of seat 4.

"Our political action committee met in person and received a pointed questionnaire from all the candidates running for the open commission seats (excluding Eric Mock running for Seat 4, who did not respond to our communications)."

While anyone can endorse whomever they want, your quote of Eric Mock not responding is, to say the least misleading.  Where did you send your "communication?" When did you send it?  It's not difficult to find me, yet you seemingly did not find me.  I received no "communication nor questionnaire."

I would be happy to answer your questions on how I would support and vote on the issues Apopka Firefighters/EMTs face.

I want to say that I support Apopka Firefighters/EMT's and the Department.  I met with Chief [Sean] Wylam and had a great conversation.  Chief Wylam shared with me the vision of the department and how Apopka Fire/EMT's can continue growing and developing in education and safety training. Earning the ISO ratings that Apopka Fire/EMT have achieved, takes time, effort, focus, and dedication.  I want to continue supporting your efforts in maintaining and increasing education, skills training, and ratings. Tuition reimbursement for training and education are one of Apopka Firefighters/EMTs' issues. I will work to support finding the best resolution addressing this and other issues.

To all the Apopka Firefighter's/EMT's and Chief Wylam, THANK YOU for your service and keeping us safe!

Eric Mock, Candidate

Apopka City Commission, Seat 4
