Apopka's Breast Cancer Supply Center moving to new location

Posted

The Breast Cancer Supply Center is a non-profit organization seeking to support women who have been diagnosed with this all-too-common cancer. Arlina Faircloth conceived the notion for the development of this outreach. She began talking about the possibilities after her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2011. Arlina felt the desire to assist women who may not have insurance or the resources to get items they may need. Several of her friends and family agreed to help.

In 2020, the First Baptist Church of Apopka, of which Arlina is a member, had the opportunity to buy two buildings on Fifth Street adjoining the church parking lot. One of the buildings, at 229 East Fifth Street, had been used as a cancer support center. The previous owner left wigs, bras, and prostheses.

Just what we wanted!

Many long hours were spent organizing each type of inventory by very committed volunteers. Now, in 2023 we are selling the Fifth Street buildings, and the Breast Cancer Supply Center is moving into the church building at 441 South Highland Avenue. We are currently in temporary but comfortable quarters and are eager to serve more clients.

The center has had the opportunity to assist women in our community and beyond. “I know what breast cancer feels like, and I want to help others who are going through this disease. We’re trying to reach people in order to share our supplies.” Explains Arlina Faircloth. It is wonderful to hear survivors' stories and to give them assistance and further encouragement. We serve, at no charge, all women who have the need for any of our supplies due to breast cancer. Those who wish to donate may do so by going to fbcapopka.net, selecting the donate button, and choosing Open Door, which is the funding source for The Breast Cancer Supply Center.

The task of getting the word spread about our services has been a greater challenge than anticipated. We are happy to partner with The Apopka Voice to get more information to the public. Visits and consultations are by appointment only and can be made by calling 321-209-8400.
