Breaking News: Orange County Public Schools reopening on Tuesday

Posted

The Orange County Public School District is reopening its schools on Tuesday after being closed since Wednesday, September 28th due to Hurricane Ian. OCPS sent the following statement to its families:

"All schools impacted by the storm have been evaluated by our maintenance and custodial teams. Except for Riverdale Elementary School all of our K-12 schools have been deemed safe to reopen Tuesday, Oct. 4. We look forward to our students, teachers and staff returning to school tomorrow.  I know this has been a challenging time for everyone, but I am so proud of our community’s resilience.

All student activities will resume as normal. Athletic competitions will be determined at the schools’ discretion.

A decision on make-up days will be forthcoming.

We strongly encourage parents of walkers and bike riders to take the opportunity to check their child’s route to school. All bus stops have been evaluated and are in good shape, but please be patient as some of our buses may be delayed due to possible issues on the road.

As a reminder, if anyone is in need of non-emergency help or information, you can call Orange County’s 311 phone line or United Way’s 211 line for resources and assistance.

Thank you for your support and continued patience as we recover from the impacts of the storm."
