Apopka's Breast Cancer Supply Center is on a mission to serve

Posted

The Breast Cancer Supply Center has been in operation since 2020. Our mission is to serve women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The center is currently located at the First Baptist Church of Apopka at 441 South Highland Avenue downtown.

The Breast Cancer Supply Center is an outreach of the church.  The board members are; Anita Tucker, Jeannie Roman, Bunnie Schorejs, Tom Tucker, Arlina Faircloth, Christy Faircloth, and Open Door Director Jayne Carter.

Very dedicated volunteers, who worked tirelessly to organize and beautify the center are church members, friends and community members, which we couldn’t have done without.

“The reason that we exist is to give,” explains Faircloth. “Also, to show others that there are people who care. We want to give encouragement and want these women to see that they can make it, just like several of our volunteers have.

Donations received are applied toward items our clients need if we do not have them in stock.  If you would like to donate, go to fbcapopka.net, select the Giving button and select Open Door from the drop-down menu. The Open Door Ministry is the funding source for the Breast Cancer Supply Center.  At present, our volunteer group is small, but we are hoping that with increased exposure to our services, we will need more volunteers to greet, make appointments, and help our clients with wigs, bras, and prosthesis fittings. Many of our volunteers are former breast cancer patients who can encourage and relate to those seeking our assistance.

If you or someone you know is in need of any of our services due to a breast cancer diagnosis, please get in touch with us. Visits are made by appointment only at 321-209-8400.

Please remember to schedule a mammogram screening if you are between 40-49. Your doctor can tell you when to start.  Early detection is the key!
