All very good rules, Chuck, many memories, especially liked ," Daddy will find out!" Often that could have been, Daddy already knew! As my dad explained, Yeah, I figured you would do something stupid, so I watched to make sure you didn't get hurt too bad! Notice the "too bad" as opposed to "at all", he further explained, "if I stopped you, I would have to watch you all the time, this way, if you lived, you might actually learn something and then you would be OK!" The other thing I remember was Mom will leave your dirty pants lying on the floor and never wash them if you did not turn the pockets inside out! She had no interest in putting her hand in the pockets of a young boy's jeans and finding what he may have considered "treasure"! You had a finite number of jeans and if you ignored this rule long enough, you were sequestered because Mom would NOT permit you to play outside in your underwear!

The last and maybe most important rule was when I a young man in the Navy and one day I was talking with a SEAL about the state of the world, I was young, so I knew all the answers, he was older, so he did not, but he was a warrior, not a soldier or a sailor, there is a profound difference, and he listened to me for a while and then gave me this advice, " it is ALWAYS easier to STAY OUT THAN TO GET OUT! It took me years to understand the truth of that advice! Bless you my friend, you are absolutely right, I miss them both deeply!
